Day 01 :
Detailed Itinerary
- Hotel Pickup & Transfer: Your driver and Egyptologist guide will pick you up from your Aswan hotel or Nile cruise ship in an air-conditioned vehicle.
- Aswan High Dam: Your first stop is the modern Aswan High Dam, a monumental 20th-century engineering achievement built between 1960 and 1970. You will see the impressive scale of the dam, which controls the Nile River's flow and has created Lake Nasser. Your guide will explain its significant impact on Egypt's economy and agriculture.
- Philae Temple: After a short motorboat ride across Lake Nasser, you will arrive at Agilkia Island, the new home of the Philae Temple. Your guide will explain how the temple was relocated and rebuilt stone-by-stone by UNESCO to save it from flooding. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Isis and features intricate carvings and preserved structures.
- Unfinished Obelisk: You will visit the northern quarries of Aswan to see the colossal Unfinished Obelisk. Still attached to the bedrock, this enormous, partially carved monument offers a unique look into ancient Egyptian stonemasonry techniques and the ambitious projects of its time. The guide will explain why this obelisk, which would have been the largest ever carved, was abandoned.
- Return Transfer: The tour concludes with a transfer back to your hotel or Nile cruise.
